Vincent in Brixton paints picture of van Gogh’s early life

A young Vincent van Gogh arrives at a boarding house run by a widow in the London suburb of Brixton, where he falls in love with the landlady’s daughter.

Vincent in Brixton by award-winning playwright Nicholas Wright explores the early years of van Gogh’s life, as the artist-to-be works for a European art dealer and deals with his tormented feelings.

The University of North Texas Department of Dance and Theatre presents the theatrical portrait of the famed painter in a production directed by Marjorie Hayes, a UNT associate professor and a respected director around the world.

Busy busy busy

Hello everyone!

This semester has been so busy! With Typography 2, Design Thinking and A History of Graphic Design I rarely have time to think of nothing but design! Just to let everyone in on the communication Design program, we are doing a project called 90 Days 90 Ways where each student is assigned a specific word (mine is “clock”) and we have to come up with a variation on that word, one every day. Above is one I did for last week.

Also big news in the International department! WORLD DAY is coming up, September 26th at the Courthouse on the square. There will be a flag parade, information booths from all countries, international food, music and dance! It’s sure to be a blast. I will be manning the Mexico booth so be sure to say hello!

The Schedule will be as follows:

11:00 AM – Parade of Nations

11:30 AM – Opening Ceremony

11:00 AM – 3:00 PM – Visit Country/Culture Booths (Africa, Europe, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Middle East, North & South America)

International Foods from: Bulgogi House (Korean), Rasoi Indian Restaurant, Andaman Thai Restaurant, and Cafe Garibaldi (Peru)

12:00 PM – 3:00 PM – International Entertainment: Latin Jazz, Indian Music, African and Pakistani Drumming, Japanese band, Argentinian Tango, and dancing from many other countries!

The Start of a New Semester

Greetings everyone!

It has been some time since I have been on the blog! Lots of things have happened, most importantly the start of the new semester! The campus is full of people and very busy all the time, it is great to hang out in and meet new people! My classes are awesome, and so are my classmates.

We have a new worker in the Recruitment office, Kalani! So if you see her be sure to say hello! The International Admissions office is going to be going through a lot of changes pretty soon, we already have some new student workers with Admissions and Advising!

Everybody please remember that this is “Free Week” at Rubber Gloves and Hailey’s! That means most show this week will be free of charge! So come on out and have some fun, listen to cool local bands, and hang out with friends!

I leave everyone with an image from the visually astounding magazine WAD (We Are Different), if you’ve never read it or seen it I suggest you do! It’s very interesting (especially from a designer’s perspective).

First week of school!

Greetings!

I hope everyone is as excited as I am about the first day of school on Thursday! Yeah I think it’s a little odd that school begins at the end of the week too. But at least you get to look forward to the weekend!

Students that have not yet sent in applications please check the deadlines page, www.international.unt.edu/dates-deadlines as they are coming up! We want to have all of you in our institution so send in your applications as soon as possible!

I will leave everyone with the trailer of a new comedy, set to be screened on Labor Day, “Extract”, http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/extract/

The choir also took part in a class for Taiwanese choral conductors and gave concerts in the cities of Jungli and Tou-Fen, Taiwan.

Prospective Graduate students please remember that Fall 2 deadlines for overseas students are October 15th! And conditional admission (Spring 2) for graduates is September 1st! So get those applications in!

I will be out of town for the rest of the week so every body head over to Hannah’s blog for weekly updates!

Accidents, updates, and news!

So I fell from my bike yesterday morning as I was riding to work! I slid about 30 feet across the pavement and scraped my arm, knees, legs, hands, and back. But I’m okay! My bike is out of order but I’m still here (as you can tell from this post). I was able to get to a building to patch myself up, walked back home and was picked up by Hannah so I could get to work!

The end of the 2008-2009 term is coming up and everyone is getting ready for the new year! Lots of changes here at UNT-International (including new desks at the main office) are coming up and we are very excited!

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I will be overseeing a fundraiser show for the Bee’s Fifth Collective tonight at 306 Texas Street (next to TWU) and there will be another Bee’s fundraiser at the same time at Hailey’s. The Texas St. house show is free, the Hailey’s show will cost a minimal amount. So if you feel like you would like to explore Denton be sure to come out to one of these events and say hello if you see me!

I found out about this band called The Very Best, headed by Malawian-born London-based singer, Esau Mwamwaya. They blend modern music with traditional African music. It’s very good. A lot of the music is sung in Chichewa.I would recommend you listen to it if you have the time! Listen to “Warm Heart of Africa”

Have a great weekend everyone!
